Hidalgo Information
Hidalgo (Spanish nobility) (Fidalgo in Galician and Portuguese) is a traditional title of persons of the Spanish nobility or gentry. The word is a contraction of the phrases 'hijo de algo', literally "a son of someone." Despite this informal-sounding term, the Spanish court rigorously regulated who was and who was not entitled to call himself an hidalgo.
